Welcome to our regular roundup of events and activities in and around AMTSO.
Meetings and Events
Last week we held an online member meeting, with updates on all things AMTSO including reports from all our active working groups (details below). We also heard from candidates in our Board elections, and surveyed those present on ideas for upcoming meetings and other events, as well as new directions to focus on. Recordings and slide decks have been made available to members via the member site, and a survey form to gather wider member input can also be found there.
Coming out of the discussions on the call, we will hold a scoping call looking at how best to address AI in testing, as well as other issues including SOC automation. This will be scheduled in the next week or so, all current members of the New Frontiers team will be invited and any other members interested in taking part should get in touch to sign up for the call.
Our next event will be a Testing Town Hall call on July 2nd, with a presentation on Android security from Google and a talk from Jan Miller of OPSWAT on the progress of our Sandbox Evaluation project, among other topics. Invites will be going out to members and signed-up guests in early June.
We have posted some photos from the recent in-person event in San Francisco to the event page, with more on our LinkedIn feed (a summary of the event can be found in our last newsletter). Details of our next physical event will be settled in the next few weeks, members can register their preferences via the survey on the member site and non-members interested in attending are welcome to get in touch directly for more information.
Working Groups
Our regular working group schedule has been somewhat disrupted in recent weeks thanks to the in-person event in San Francisco closely followed by our member meeting, but work has continued behind the scenes on many of our projects.
Our threat intel sharing project, RTTL, continues to expand and improve, with full details reported at last week’s member meeting and in a recent release. The project team will hold their regular update call next week to monitor the status of the system and work on further expansion targets.
Our Sandbox group, with its Evaluation Framework paper published in March, has been working on structure to host test data conforming to the framework, with users enabled to tune the weightings to meet their specific requirements. We hope to see this implemented soon with initial test data to populate it, and encourage testers and sandbox vendors to participate. The group will meet next week to track progress.
Our VPN group, having published its guideline paper on testing VPN technologies in February, is being repurposed to focus on a wider range of web-based threats, phishing, scams and more, in the shape of a new “real-world testing” group – members interested in contributing are invited to sign up for the new group, which will hold a launch call in early June.
As noted above we will be holding a scoping call to look into various potential new projects and topics to address, some of which may be rolled into the XDR Working Group or other projects.
