The Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization, Inc. (AMTSO) announces the launch of two new tools that are aimed at improving the quality of security product testing and end user protection: the Real Time Threat List (RTTL) and the upgraded Security Features Check.
RTTL provides a common platform for testers, security vendors and academics to share malware samples, URLs and telemetry data. This will help provide more complete and accurate information to support prevalence-weighted and region-specific anti-malware testing. RTTL will promote more accurate and relevant anti-malware testing, allowing consumers and businesses to make more informed decisions when choosing security products.
John Hawes, Chairman of AMTSO and Chief of Operations at Virus Bulletin stated, “For a security tester, a reliable source of detailed data on the most significant threats offers a great opportunity to build more relevant and useful tests. RTTL has the potential to significantly improve the anti-malware testing industry, and Virus Bulletin is excited to join other AMTSO members in incorporating this resource into our testing methodologies.”
RTTL is free for use by AMTSO’s membership, which includes industry leading testers, vendors and academics. A full list of AMTSO members can be found at https://www.amtso.org/members/.
AMTSO has added new components to the Security Features Check, a free tool for end users to confirm whether their installed security system is operating as expected. The new components include testing whether a user’s web, local and cloud protection systems are working. They also include testing for protection against unwanted applications. Collectively, these tools allow a user more visibility and control over their security solution.
Thomas Wegele, AMTSO’s Chief Technology Officer and Manager of Web Development for Avira, stated, “We are pleased to see the significant increase in use of the Security Features Check by visitors to the AMTSO website, and believe that this tool can help provide end users with peace of mind that their security product is working as expected.”
The Security Features Check is free and can be found at https://www.amtso.org/security-features-check/
